Alicia Keys has found herself at the center of a storm of criticism after expressing her desire to experience paragliding on Instagram.
On Monday (Oct. 16), the renowned artist behind "Girl On Fire" posted a picture of herself donning a green motojacket and revealed her interest in trying out the exhilarating sport. Almost immediately, her comment section was inundated with detractors accusing her of being insensitive in light of the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.
She captioned her post with a thought-provoking question:
"What would you do if fear wasn't a factor? Share your truth..."
and added,
"I've been contemplating paragliding..."
The New York Post reports that earlier this month, Hamas terrorists used paragliders to infiltrate an Israeli music festival, leading to the tragic loss of hundreds of innocent lives. Alicia Keys, unaware of this at the time, promptly removed her post and issued an apology to her Instagram followers via her Instagram Story.
In her statement, she clarified,
"The post I shared had absolutely no connection to the recent heartbreaking loss of innocent lives. My heart is heavy... I pray for and stand for peace."
Although Keys' post initially appeared benign, it triggered a fierce backlash, with some coming to her defense.
Prominent music manager Guy Oseary passionately defended her on his own Instagram account, stating,
"I can reassure anyone in our community who needs to hear it: the accusations are unfounded. There was a specific word in her post that our community finds highly sensitive during this difficult time, but it was in no way related to the events. Alicia has consistently championed human rights. For over a decade, I've witnessed her positive impact on the world. Her humanitarian efforts are a testament to her empathy and compassion."

On the other hand, one commenter on a different platform exclaimed,
"Ms. so-called 'peace & love' knew precisely what she was doing, and this is career-damaging. It's too late now, ma'am!"
Another individual expressed,
"She knew what she was saying, all while wearing the colors of Palestine. Alicia Keys is an anti-Semitic figure. Those who support her have been endorsing Palestine's actions throughout the week. Every one of them is in the wrong."
As of the time of publication, Alicia Keys has not commented further on the backlash stemming from her post.
