In a significant legal development, a fresh prosecutor, Alixandra Buckelew, has been assigned to the high-profile double murder case involving rapper YNW Melly. This change came after concerns led to the removal of the former lead prosecutor, Kristine Bradley.
Buckelew, known for her work on the XXXTentacion murder case, requested more time to familiarize herself with YNW Melly's case, a move challenged by the defense arguing for a speedy trial.
The defense succeeded in having Bradley removed, citing prosecutorial misconduct concerns. While hoping for a case dismissal, they considered Bradley's recusal a significant victory.
YNW Melly, whose real name is Jamell Demons, faces allegations of killing his friends, YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser, in 2018. His first trial ended with a hung jury, leading to an upcoming retrial. Jury selection for the retrial begins on October 18.
YNW Melly has remained incarcerated since his 2019 arrest, consistently proclaiming his innocence throughout the legal proceedings.
